Zubaida Tariq



Introduction:
Zubaida Tariq, also known as Zubaida APA is a renowned chef and cooking expert of Pakistan. She is the role model and the source of advices for almost all the Pakistani women based in Pakistan as well as living in foreign countries.  She currently appears in shows on cooking channels and is also seen in different interviews and talk sessions on various morning shows as well. She is also seen in many advertisements and certain books based on her recipes and kitchen and home tips are popular in market.

Family background:
She was born in Hyderabad India in 1945 and after the separation of Pakistan she migrated along with her family to Karachi where she still resides. She lived there with her 6 sisters and 4 brothers. At her young age, her father passed away and 3 of her elder sisters took the responsibility of her home and got her married to his first cousin Tariq Hussain. At age of 21, she got married and settled happily in her in-laws. She has one daughter named as Saba who has two children. She is a sister of prominent cultural personalities in Pakistan, like Anwar Maqsood (Urdu writer and play writer, host, television presenter), Fatima Surayya Bajia (Urdu Novelist and Play writer), Zehra Nigah(Urdu Poet) and an aunt of Bilal Maqsood, member of the Pakistani band Strings.

Cooking Career:
It is unbelievable to know that when Zubaida got married, she didn’t even know the single thing about cooking. She wasn’t even aware about how to cook plain rice. Once she told,
“I cooked curry without knowing that it is made by mixing yogurt with pea flour (besan). I mixed it in water and I didn’t thickened”
Her husband used to took along his friends on lunch and Zubaida used to cook for them. His husband’s friends encouraged her a lot. Zubaida didn’t had any confidence in in her as she didn’t had any educational degree. Over the time, with the support of her husband and her mother in law, she quickly started to win hearts. In the 45 years of married life she might engage only 6 catering services at various gathering and parties, otherwise she love to cook the food by her. She started her career in the age of 50. When most people retire, she started gaining fame and she also succeeded.

Zubaida worked on ARY for 1½ years, and then she did 120 programs with Sajid Hussain, 120 morning programs with Nadia, and about 450 shows with Kiran. Then Zubaida came on FM 107 with a show called Aik Mukammal Ghar which was first hosted by Azra Manzoor. In the meantime, she did 200 shows of another program called Kitchen Magic, and then she did another show on Geo TV by the name of Aaj Ke Bhao. She is now working with Masala TV in people most watched cooking show Handi. She has covered more than 1000 episodes for the show.
