Badshahi Mosque


Badshahi mosque known as “imperial mosque” located in Lahore. It is a second largest masjid in south Asia region whereas fifth in the worldwide. It is a beautiful and the great symbol of the Mughal Emperor “Aurengzaib”. It was constructed by him in between 1671 and 1673. It is a major point for the tourist attraction in a colorful and most historic city Lahore. Its design is very much familiar to the design of Jama Majid which is located in Dehli and is constructed by the father of Aurangzeb “Shah Jehan”. The courtyard of Badshahi Mosque spreads over the 276000 sq feet and its minarets are 60 m tall.
It’s a most known symbol of Mughals and is greatly suffer in the period of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He took the control of Lahore on 7 July 1799. He uses the courtyard for his army horses and uses the Huzuri Bagh for his royal court. In 1841, Sher Singh the son of Ranjit Singh used the minarets for light guns, during the Anglo-Sikh War.in this war Diwan-e-Aam was destroyed and is again rebuild by the British but it does not be same as the previous state. During the British raj on 1849, they too use the mosque for the purpose of Military Garrison. They knock down the cells of the mosque to prevent themselves from the anti-British acts.
On 1852, it is again being re-establish as a religious place and from 1939 beyond, its repairing start and this task is done by the Sikander Hayat khan for the purpose of funds. Till 1852, it was not be mended because of the British raj. It was carried out on 1939 by the architect Nawab Zen Yar Jang Bahadur. This process is completed on 1960 at the price of 4.8 million rupees.  Now it’s situated in Lahore and is a famous religious place whose capacity is 100,000 and have 8 minarets in which 4 are major and 4 are minor.
