Faisalabad-the Manchester of Pakistan


Pakistan’s third biggest city after Karachi and Lahore is Faisalabad which is located in the province of Punjab. The ex-name of Faisalabad was Lyallpur. The foundation of Faisalabad was kept in 1880 at that time the population of Faisalabad was just few thousands. Presently the population of this city is about 2.5 million. The ancient history of Faisalabad is very interesting. In the beginning the city was also called Chenab Colony after that its name changed to Sandalbar, then the name Lyallpur was given to this city and finally the name Faisalabad was decided for the city. The name Faisalabad was given in the name of famous king of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Shah Faisal.

The reason why Pakistan is called the Manchester of Pakistan is its largest textile industry. The textile industry of Faisalabad is the largest Industry of Pakistan. The industries based in Faisalabad are related to the industries working in the Manchester city of UK. The Faisalabad industries are dealing with the cotton spinning and textile manufacturing. The hosiery products of Faisalabad are famous all over the world. One of the main landmarks of Faisalabad is its agricultural university.

Faisalabad sights include wildlife, markets and amusement parks. Faisalabad is a large city in Pakistan and was founded in 1880. It is an industrial hub serviced by a railroad and road. The Ravi River and Chenab River run near the city. Faisalabad International Airport is located 10 km from the city center.
