DAMAN-E-KOH ISLAMABAD - THE UNPARALLELED NATURE'S TREASURE


Daman-e-Koh - the name might be a little difficult for the people unfamiliar with Urdu language. Daman means center, however here it means hem. Koh is the urdu translation for mountain. Daman-e-Koh means hem of the mountain. Providing a bird-eye view from Islamabad, Daman-e-Koh is located down in the Margalla hills. Located at around 500 ft height to the north of the Federal capital of Pakistan; Islamabad, Daman-e-Koh is known as a resting point for the tourists heading forward from Islamabad to Pir Sohawa. However, some speculating features of Daman-e-Koh have made it a tourist spot in itself. The most prominent feature is its chair lift system.

Quite rich in monkeys and Cheetahs, Daman-e-Koh provides great living facilities in its restaurants and food spots. The government of Pakistan has made all the necessary arrangements for the protection of the tourists from the wild animals. The food spots and rest houses cover the complete location of Daman-e-Koh. The main point of Daman-e-Koh is divided as the southern part and the northern part. The southern spot is the most adored one, as it contains hill restaurants, five star hotels and elite food spots, providing a direct view of the federal capital. On the northern side, there are small restaurants, parks and food spots. Families mostly opt for the northern part for picnics, and the honeymoon couples and love birds choose the southern part.

The major cuisines offered at Daman-e-Koh include famous Pakistani foods like Sindhi Biryani (a very famous food in the Southern Pakistan), Fish dishes, prawn dishes, Chicken dishes, Chargha, special goat roast Chargha, Rabbit dishes, Camel dishes, roasted Deer, Sajji (whole animal filled with special rice and roasted directly on fire), a variety of Chinese, Italian, Thai, Indian, Bengali and continental foods. The place also contains fast food franchises of the famous international fast food chains. Roadside small restaurants or 'dhabba' offers a variety of local and international hot drinks.

The weather of Daman-e-Koh is pleasant almost throughout the year. There is slight rain or drizzling during spring. Winter is the season of snowfall, monkeys and Cheetahs. Most of the tourists visit Daman-e-Koh during the summer for its entangling beauty reaches the sky-heights with the bright shining sun between the blue skies, and green tree covered mountains. The sky turns gray during rainy seasons. Tourists should take slightly warmer clothes during summer, and very warm woolen clothes during winter.

The government of Pakistan has installed an automated system of electric cars that are potent to drive the tourists to their desired destinations. Several new parks have also been constructed. Daman-e-Koh chair lift system will also be improved, and according to the recent news, the chair lift system will connect Daman-e-Koh with Pir Sohawa directly. The Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan is also planning to further develop the location of Daman-e-Koh, as the natural beauty of this place has yet a lot to offer to the tourists.
