ISLAMABAD ZOO - THE TREASURE HUNT OF ANIMALS


Islamabad - the Federal Capital of Pakistan - is a great amalgam of natural beauty and industrial Pakistan. While entering into the city and passing through the Faizabad interchange, you will se sky-touching grass covered mountains on the both sides. The clouds passing through the mountains remain far behind the memories as you get into the high brown stone made buildings serving for federal offices and the great white Supreme Court building. However, the government of Pakistan has maintained the natural touch to the city by developing several natural sites, parks and tourism areas. One of these include the renowned Islamabad zoo.

Special Features
  • The zoo is although constructed on a small area however, the government of Pakistan has started a 1407.8 million PKR project in 2008 to let the zoo stand among the world famous zoos, and enable it fulfill the international standards.
  • The zoo is very neat and clean. You will not find any dirt or garbage in the zoo whereabouts and
  • The animals in the zoo are protected and nurtured on the basis of Wildlife Protection Act. The food for animals is carefully checked and scrutinized in the zoo forensic lab.
  • Total population of the zoo animals is around 600 including lions, tigers, leopards, fox, dogs, cats, elephants, zebras, camels, monkeys, chimpanzees, Indian gazelle, crocodiles and a lot of other animals.
  • The zoo is located just beside the Japanese park and in the lower grounds of Margalla Hills, providing a clear view of the beautiful green hills. While moving from the south of Islamabad, the zoo connects you with Daman-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa, the renowned tourist spots of Pakistan.

  • Leave the children in the zoo without worrying about their security and enjoy your ideal couple time with each other.
  • Eat spicy burgers, fried, Pakistani foods and foods from international food chains from the zoo canteen and enjoy delicious hot and cold drinks.
  • Enjoy animals rides in the zoo on elephants, camels and other animals.
  • Feed the animals with animal foods.
  • Don't spit or throw garbage in the zoo premises. Dustbins are available, or you will be charged fine.
  • Don't irritate the animals, they are precious.
History
Started in 1978, the zoo is located at an area of 82 acres. The zoo was actually started as a security and protection space for the leopards, Indian gazelle and tigers, which were found in the surrounding areas, especially Shakar Parian, Daman-e-Koh and Kalar Kahar. Constructed as a separate place, the zoo gained name and fame when people visiting the Japanese park started visiting the Islamabad zoo also. The zoo was then further developed by constructing an aivary. Eating spots, activites and children park was also established.

Now, the government is planning to extend the area of zoo and establish festivals of international level. A project of 1407.8 million PKR is assigned to the Capital Development Authority to extend the construction of the zoo.
